Space Dust

Last night a group of friends gathered at our house for a meteor shower adventure. We drove north (waaaay north) and laid on a damp hillside watching the space dust shoot through the sky. Matt reminded all of us that the light we are currently seeing that make up the stars is actually millions of years old. It's a weird thought.

I heart Columbus - PechaKucha

Defined by the ever reliable Wikipedia: "Pecha Kucha Night events consist of around a dozen presentations, each presenter having 20 slides, each shown for 20 seconds. Each presenter has just 6 minutes 40 seconds to explain their ideas before the next presenter takes the stage. Conceived as a venue through which young designers could meet, show their work, exchange ideas, and network, the format keeps presentations concise, fast-paced and entertaining."

Last night I attended Columbus' 14th PechaKucha. It consisted mostly of presenters speaking passionately about different aspects of Columbus, calling us all to care a little more. The air vibrated with the intense patriotism that Columbusites have towards their homeland and I was reminded once again why I have chosen this city.

I've begun work on a couple of freelance projects. It's nice to be back in my comfort zone, sifting through design blogs and flicking around the wacom pen. I came upon this really lovely blog today and I wanted to share it.

Blondies and Best Friends

Sara invited Tasha and I over for a vegetarian meat loaf that she was very excited about making. I'm going to be honest. I'm not a fan of meat loaf, even the non-vegetarian kind. I was in charge of dessert and I decided it would be a good time to try that blondie recipe I've been thinking about. The blondies turned out great. The vegetarian meat loaf (or should we call it a crumble?) was not gross at all, it was fantastic. Then to top it off Tasha brought blue mashed potatoes with this red pepper puree type topping. AMAZING!

Volunteering

For years I have considered volunteering at a cat shelter on a regular basis. Of course what I really want to do is adopt all the cats and be this lady. But I won't... yet... ever... we'll see. Anyhoo. The other day I got off work and headed to a local bar to see Tin Armor play. At the door I was made aware of a suggested $7 donation. Assuming it's going to the band I scrap up my last $7 and hand it to the guy. Once inside Mark informs me it's for kittens. KITTENS! I LOVE kittens. That when I found out about Colony Cats, a shelter up in Dublin. I am filling out my volunteer form and hopefully helping some furry little friends very soon. I'll keep you updated.

08.01.10

11:33 p.m. - One unexpected perk of working at a hotel: my favorite delivery guy dropping off a complimentary pizza when I get off work.

A little slice of perfection

So maybe I'm a little biased but he's definitely one of the cutest babies ever. These pictures were taken during the rare sleeping moment, but otherwise he is a mover!

As a side note: every mother deserves pretty flowers, especially after giving birth.

All them blueberries

had to be made into something before they went sour. So I made a blueberry tart to enjoy now and blueberry preserves to enjoy later.

Camp 2010 - Scenes from the week

I feel pangs in my heart every time I'm up here, like running into your first crush years later. I'm so in love with the quiet here, the friendly neighborhoods, the kind hard working residents, and the quaint homes. Because I have been removed from this type of calm for so long I am able to find just as much excitement in the rushing streams as the city nightlife and just as much pleasure in sugar pea's off of the vine as a fancy restaurant. I know that without living in the big city and the not so big city I would still take it for granted. I am lucky. I have been able to experience so many worlds. The one where my family is will always be my favorite.

p.s. the cute photo of the two little girls is my aunts, we are a family of great photographers ;)

Camp 2010 - Blueberry Patch

There could not have been a better day to pick blueberries. The cool morning air still lingering and the bushes wet from the previous days rain. My mom and dad raced to fill their buckets while Sara and I took our time enjoying this rare activity for city dwellers. At the end of an hour we bought the 36lbs we picked and began the car ride blueberry feast.
