Celebrating our freedom to eat ourselves stupid

Dinner club was hosted in our backyard this week. We stuffed ourselves full of the following:

• Evie's homemade veggi burgers
• Bridget's potato salad and cucumber salad
• My cold vinegar vegetable salad (aslo know as "that thing my Grandmother makes with the vegetables and vinegar)
• Ana's bread salad
• Watermelon
• Ana's blackberry peach pie
• Mint lemonade
• Smores, of course

And it ended in sparklers.

11:22 a.m. - hanging clothes outside on the line. A simple chore that I really really enjoy.

I've never had a green thumb. I've killed a plethora of plants, but I haven't given up yet. For the past three months Mark, Evie, and I have been filling all the little nooks and crannies in our yard with seedlings. Some have worked very well (too well maybe), others have not even popped their little heads out of the ground. But as Evie's mom put it "it's all an experiment". Oh, have I learned a lot... squash and cucumber type plants should be planted FAR away from anything else, tomato plants need LOTS of support, lawn care guy should be warned in advance to not weed-wack the flower seedling in the flower bed.

Despite the frustrating failures I enjoy it too much to ever give it up. I look forward each morning to tending to the plants, trying to save the sad looking ones and encourage the huge overgrown squash to share some of the sunshine with his pepper neighbor.

On family

At some point I realized that I am watching my very own family develop. Mark and I talk in length about what we want "our" family to look like and how many kids we want. But really it's not something you can set on paper. Families are organic. I have completely fallen for Marks side of the family and I am incredibly lucky that they welcome me in.

We were witness to Mark's Dad's wedding last week which took place in the shade of tree's on a lovely June day. It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding, simple and meaningful. And before the night was over we gathered all of the Parson's men together for a cherished family photo. I'm grateful to be part of this family and am excited about it being the foundation for ours.

Fancy Shmancy

I love working for Marriott. I could go on and on about how amazing the benefits are and all the awesome things that Mr. Marriott does for his employee's. Like for instance... Mark and I are going to stay at this fancy shmancy hotel in a couple of months for a very thrifty difty price.

I heart Columbus - Park of Roses

The Park of Roses was named one of the ten best places to view roses by USA today. AND it's like right down the street from my house. I was shocked walking into the HUGE rose garden, did I mention this is just down the street from where I live?

There was a wonderful sense of community as we strolled along the roses. Everyone came out to enjoy them and all different age groups and cultures were brought together by their beauty.

for good now. I quit one of my jobs and transfered hotels. Life is great. I work downtown and love the faster pace of my job. I also love working a normalish set of hours and actually having two days off a week. So I'll be blogging waaaaaay more now and may even have time to stop and say hello in person :)
